5th Hunt [Accidental Video] Welcome to my house, buckle up tight

[The communicator shows a thoroughly miserable looking Dean. He's got a glass of whiskey in front of him, his elbows on the bar and he's practically pouting. His mutterings can just barely be heard]

Hot women and I know they're hot but...nothing. The sisters over there? They'd let me take them both home and...this sucks

[He throws back half a glass of whiskey, bumps the communicator and it shuts off.]

[The communicator comes up a while later and Dean is no longer miserable or pouting. In fact he's counting his money, a couple of stacks of violet and a few Indigo chips. There's a table behind him scattered with playing cards and several angry looking guys]

You cheated! [One of the angry men are up and moving toward Dean. He's an average size guy, scruffy and had more than his fair share to drink. Dean laughs and takes a step back toward the pool tables.]

No, you can't play. There's a difference.

You expect me to believe you won all that money from all of us fair and square [He makes a round robin gesture to his friends still sitting at the table]

Pretty much. [Dean starts pointing out people at the table] He does a duck face when he's bluffing. He gets a twitch in his jaw when he's got a good hand. He drums his fingers on the table when he's got nothing and you...[Dean spreads his hands wide] Well you can't play for shit.

[Dodging the guy's right hook isn't even a problem. Dean grabs his arm, smacks him hard with a left jab right on the jaw. The guy goes a little loopy and Dean lets go of his arm to let his own right hook smack the guy in the mouth. Average Joe hits the ground and his friends move up from the table like one entity. The idiot's grin on Dean's face is enough to make a couple of guys back down but that leaves the biggest boy still coming at him. Dean grabs a pool cue, breaks it over the guys head but fails to dodge a punch that makes his head swim. Dean's good at moving forward when he's seeing stars so he does just that, tackling the guy and pushing him into the table. It breaks, cards going everywhere, what's left of the money scattering across the floor. Dean grabs a handful of them, drives his elbow into the guy's diaphragm and then begins really wailing on him. The bouncer drags him off and Dean stops fighting. He's relaxed and still has that idiot's grin on his face when he gets literally tossed out into the dirt. He picks up a couple of violet chips that fell out of his pockets, takes his gun out of his pocket and gets to his feet.]

Easy money my ass

[He's grumbling and counting his money when he notices the camera is on and switches it off]

I know.

And being home alone... at least here I know if someone shows up and tries to abduct me again there's a good chance somebody else will see them and raise the alarm.

[identity profile] dude-imbatman.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
There are people trying to abduct you?

[identity profile] coyote-walking.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
The night of Friday the 26th someone abducted me. I turned up naked and... like this... at the zoo the next night.

I have no memory of what happened - and believe me that freaks me out to no end.

And... 3 or 4 other people also were abducted. I'm the only one who wasn't killed and no one knows why.

It's... yeah... really frightening. I mean, they could walk right into my room and I wouldn't know it was them.

[identity profile] dude-imbatman.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
They catch what did it?

[Because in Dean's world it's always a what not a who]

[identity profile] coyote-walking.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Nobody has any idea. Whoever or whatever they are - they're still out there.

[ooc: And here the whos often are whats.]

[identity profile] dude-imbatman.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Mind if I come back by interview you and check out your medical file?

[Whatever did this isn't a who as far as Dean is concerned. Not human enough. It's a what]

[identity profile] coyote-walking.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Sure. Just... I get panicky sometimes talking about it. And don't take it personally if I fall asleep on you. That still happens.

Just... don't turn out the lights if I do.

I'll be there in a little bit.

Dean drives--and that's a nice feeling--to the hospital, parks the Impala and heads toward Mercy's room. He's got a little notebook to scribble things on and a fake ID from the Impala's glovebox that says he's Detective Edward Van Halen from Atlanta, Georgia. The ID won't do him any good if someone wants to question him but it makes Dean feel more like this is a job and Dean misses being on a job. Saving people always felt like absolution to him.

He walks into Mercy's room and pulls a chair up next to the bed. "Hey. Think you're looking better today."

Re: action;

[identity profile] coyote-walking.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Mercy smiled over at him. "Thanks. I'm hoping I get a little better each day. This place is making me crazy. I can't block out the noise or the smells."

Re: action;

[identity profile] dude-imbatman.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
That makes Dean quirk an eyebrow up. He's not entirely sure what she means. "Yeah I was never a fan of disinfectant but you can probably talk to them about being quieter."

Re: action;

[identity profile] coyote-walking.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sorry," she said, wincing. "I forgot you wouldn't know because you're new here. I'm a Walker. I can shift into a coyote. It gives me enhanced smell and hearing even in human form."

Re: action;

[identity profile] dude-imbatman.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Dean takes a moment, weighing her words against what he knows. He's never heard of a walker, not one that could control it's transformation. That alone doesn't surprise him because if there is control then that means no one is getting hurt and Dean and Sam aren't needed. He wants to clarify what he's assuming though.

"So you aren't bound to changing during the full moon? And you can control yourself when you're in coyote form? Do you remember it?"

Re: action;

[identity profile] coyote-walking.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
She shook her head. "I can change whenever I want and yeah, I have total control and remember everything. I was born this way, started shifting when I was just a baby."

Re: action;

[identity profile] dude-imbatman.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Dean nodded. He could deal with non-humans as long as they weren't hurting people. Lucky for Mercy. He hadn't always been that way. John Winchester had been a little...fanatical. Non humans got killed. Of course to be fair to John, he hadn't known they could be anything but violent.

"Okay. So who were you with, where were you and what were you doing just before you were kidnapped?"

Re: action;

[identity profile] coyote-walking.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Mercy'd been over this a million times in her head so she barely had to think about it. "I worked at Harry's store, then I went to my garage and worked on the bug a little, then I shifted and went for a run. Then I got dressed again and headed home and..."

She sighed. "That's it. That's all I remember till Harry found me in the zoo Saturday night."

Re: action;

[identity profile] dude-imbatman.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Could anyone have followed you? I know you've got enhanced scent and hearing but is it possible you wouldn't have noticed them?" Dean asked. "Barring that do you remember any unusual scents or sounds? Anything that might be out of the ordinary. Even if you've smelled it before but not in that place."

Re: action;

[identity profile] coyote-walking.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"I suppose," she said slowly. "I sort of... I think there might have been someone, but no one who made me uneasy or anything. But I can't remember anything else. No deatails. No sounds or smells or anything."

She considered. "I... the only thing out of the ordinary is that I... I'm scared to shift and I don't know why. Does that mean anything to you?"

Re: action;

[identity profile] dude-imbatman.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"So it was someone you know. You might go through your list of acquaintances, come up with someone that you know that's been acting odd lately or someone that you know but don't trust entirely," Dean answered.

He made a face, thinking about what she's said. After a moment he shrugged. "Do you keep the damage done to you when shift? Someone kicks you when you're a coyote, breaks your ribs. Do your ribs stay broken when you become human again? Because if so, my guess is some of this was done to you while you were a coyote."

Re: action;

[identity profile] coyote-walking.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Or it could have just been someone I'd seen in the area before." She let out her breath. "Or honestly, it could be anyone who wasn't skulking around. I don't worry so much about people here. I usually only get uneasy if somebody acts suspicious, so..."

Mercy nodded. "Yeah, I do. Whatever happens in either form translates to the other. And I'm not like werewolves either. I don't have superstrength or superhealing so I can't take the kind of damage they can. And I don't heal better if I shift they way they do. The werewolves I know would be completely healed by now, in a few days if that. But me... I heal human slow."

Re: action;

[identity profile] dude-imbatman.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Dean pursed his lips and nodded. That didn't really narrow anything down but he'd see what he could find out. This would likely mean going to the police station. And his fake ID's wouldn't hold any weight there. Which meant he'd have to do it the straight way. Crap. He hated the straight way.

"Well, that's my guess. I'm not a psychologist but Big Brother scares the shit out of his little brother while he's in the bathroom, kid doesn't want to use the bathroom for a week."

Yeah, he might have done that to Sam. Once. Or twice.

Re: action;

[identity profile] coyote-walking.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm pretty small as a coyote," Mercy said thoughtfully. Not that she was huge in human form, but still... human size versus 32 pounds was a big deal. "So it would be easier to break ribs and stuff..."

She smiled at him a little ruefully. "So how do I get over it?"

Re: action;

[identity profile] dude-imbatman.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Dean shrugged again. He liked shrugging. It was a good all purpose gesture. "Time?" he suggested. "Once you think enough of that has passed, get someone you trust and that can protect you in a room with you while you shift. Try that a few times then broaden your scope. At least that's how I'd do it."

Psychology? Nope Dean hasn't taken any but he did practically raise Sam so he's got the whole 'dad' wisdom going for him. Of course sometimes his brand of dad wisdom includes chucking a box of condoms at someone Sam and saying bag it.

Just the thought of that was making her feel panicked and the beeping sounds were starting to speed up on the machines.

"I, yeah, maybe," she said, looking terrified and dead white. "But not now. Maybe not for a long time."
