[Dean is underneath the Impala, legs sticking out, the sound of him sweet talking the car coming in quiet mutterings. He's changing out the fuel filter today and having a bit of trouble with it sticking. After a few minutes it comes free and it puts the new one in. Once that's done, he finishes up and slides out from beneath the car looking for someone to kiss.]

[Not only did she let that thing near her family but they had made her same mistakes. She'd wanted out of that life but instead she'd brought her family into it. Mary's not even trying to fight her tears.]

I just wanted a family. I wanted you boys more than anything and I wanted you to always be safe.

I know.

[He remembers her speech.]</small. I wish...I wish you could have--it'd all worked out.

Things rarely ever go the way we want when dealing with demons.

[If he was a hunter then he'd know how true that was.]

It--you shouldn't feel guilty. It's the way things happened. You had to save Dad.

[And without the deal, there would have been no Dean or Sam.]

[She shifts now, letting her hand rest on his shoulder.]

I wouldn't have you or your brother and I'm not sorry for that.

[Dean nods, grateful for her hand on his shoulder even if he doesn't change his posture in anyway.]

I didn't know...until a couple of years ago. Still not sure Sam knows.

[Giving his shoulder a gentle squeeze.]

I was very good at hiding that part of my life from your father. He never knew anything. [Except for when, you know, angels came to kill them but that's gone.] Looks like he knows now.

He found out after you were killed. He couldn't let it go because he knew it wasn't an accident.

That sounds like him. He's a very stubborn man. I just wish I could have raised you boys with a different life.

Me too. I think he did too. [He doesn't know that for sure but he assumes at one point, John wanted the same things Mary did.]

He died a few years ago. Made a deal with the yellow eyed demon to save me.

[Back when they were living a normal life together - before she died.

The news about John making a deal with the same demon makes her heart ache. It hurts just as much as it had the first time.] Your friend, Castiel, told me the demon was dead now.

[Dean nods.] Yeah. I shot him with The Colt. He's gone and Dad... this sounds crazy but I think Dad helped.

[He wants her to know that John helped get the demon that killed her. All of this wasn't in vain.]

It doesn't sound crazy. John's stubborn enough to do that. [It's a relief to know that the demon is dead for good (unless this place brings him here before his death like her) but John's death, the boys struggles still weigh heavily on her.]

[Dean chuckles a little bitterly at that.] Yeah, guess he is.

[Dean doesn't even want to think about that. He'd have to make another deal for the Colt and he's betting the deities wouldn't give it to him working. That's a problem since the only person he knows who knows how to make it work is a lying, stealing, backstabbing, demon bitch named Ruby.]
