Phone Call for giveandforgive [Locked to Brooke]

"You gonna call her?" Sam asked.

"Said I would," Dean answered.

"Well...you ought to."

"Sammy...shut up."

In response, Sam had shoved his earbuds in his ears and turned up his music. Right now he had his forehead against the passenger window pretending to be asleep. Dean fished his cell phone out of his jacket pocket and dialed Brooke's number. He wasn't mad. He hadn't been lying about that. He was hurt. He knew why but he didn't understand it. He hadn't been lying about wanting to get a jump on the research. That part was true too. The real reason he didn't want to go back and talk to her face to face right now was because he didn't know how to handle this. He didn't know what the hell he was thinking or feeling. He waited for Brooke to pick up the phone and hoped this wasn't Dean Winchester, screwing up.

'Good point," Dean laughed. "I have no problem with that."

"His dad wouldn't drive any old car," she laughed. "It'll be good."

"Yeah," Dean nodded. "It'll be good." He was a little nervous about the whole deal but he also really wanted Matthew to finally know that he was his dad and that he was sticking around.

"It scares me, but I think it's right," she admitted quietly. "It'll just take some getting used to. For all of us."

"He deserves to know," Dean said quietly. "He should know his dad loves him."

"Yeah, if that's--" Brooke started, and then realized that she wasn't surprised that Dean loved Matthew. Her on the other hand, well, that was still a shock. "He should. You're his hero."

"M'not sure I deserve to be anyone's hero, Brooke," Dean answered quietly.

"You know, that's the good thing about it. No one asks you whether you deserve it or you want it. He just looks up to you and cares about you and it happens on it's own," Brooke explained. "You've been good for him."

"I'm trying," Dean responded. He glanced over at Sam. "Hey, it's late and you should get some sleep. There's a diner up the way I'm going to stop for pie in so I'll let you go but I'll call tomorrow."
