41st Hunt [Accidental Video] If it keeps on rainin', levee's goin' to break

[The video flickers on when Dean sets it down. His jaw is clenched, muscles taunt and tense through his jaw, neck and shoulders. The look in his eyes is pure murder. He aims the gun at the target and fires off nine quick shots then reloads and fires nine more. He sets the gun down, nudging the device and it turns to show his target--nine head shots; nine heart shots.

Rinse. Repeat]

I'm... I guess skittish is the word. I was at the Library and someone dropped a book - before I knew it I had sent myself across the City.

I did the same thing when someone sneezed.

...I would appreciate it if you would stop shooting over the network.

[A grumble and scrubbing his hands over his face.]

Yeah...wasn't really meant to be on the network but I'll go...get a drink or something.

You okay?

I'm in the gardens, it's quiet there and... feels safer. Of course, there's the possibility of trying to hide under a bush at some point, but I'll take what I can get today.

[Dean takes the 'Anna's scared' idea as a reason to stop shooting at the range and drive over to the gardens. She can probably hear the Impala pull up a short distance away. When he shows up in the garden, he's got a six pack of beer and no guns in sight]

Anna?

[He even says it a little more quietly]

[She hears the unmistakable, thunderous roar of what her instincts are trying to tell her is a death-beast coming to eat her whole and it's only her centuries of self control that keep her in place. Granted that place is hiding In a tree, but she had to celebrate her successes where she can.

She watches him approach and manages to keep a quaver from her voice as she calls back down.]

Up here, Dean.

[Dean looks up in the tree at her, one eyebrow quirked up. He rubs a hand over his forehead then nods]

Okay. I'm coming up.

[And he grabs a tree branch and starts to pull himself up into the tree.]

[At first she flinches back, but she manages to stop a full retreat, even managing to offer a hand to assist.]

Why are you here? You didn't need to come.

[Once he's balanced a bit awkwardly in the tree with her, he gives her a 'seriously? That's disappointing' look]

You're scared. I'm here 'cause of that.

[She almost tells him he didn't need to, but she realizes that it might be taken poorly. He's a caretaker, it's his nature to look out for those he cares for, and while she's not sure how she feels about that, she can appreciate the gesture.]

Thank you.

[She gives him a slight smile]

You didn't have to climb the tree you know. I could have come down.

[She thinks, she's not sure she feels quite that safe yet.]

Yeah. No problem.

[He looks down and then shrugs before looking up at her] Been a while since I climbed up in a tree anyway.

[That actually makes her laugh a little, the image of a wee Dean Winchester climbing a tree and paying in a yard somewhere. And despite her intentions, part of her is glad she failed in her task back home because in her heart she knows that little boy was happy for a time.]

Is it everything you remember?

[Anna shifts around so that she's sitting next to Dean, she feels a little safer that way.]

[He chuckles a little and actually thinks about it. After a moment he answers]

Yeah. Add in the smell of sugar cookies baking and it's everything I remember.

[It's easy to smile at the image.]

My mom was partial to oatmeal raisin. My human mother, I mean.

[Anna's legs swing a little as she relaxes.]

Thanks. For coming. It helps.

Tell you what, when you feel like it we'll go get oatmeal raisin and sugar cookies.

[He grins at her and nudges her shoulder just slightly with his]

No problem.

Cookie date?

[She nudges him back. It's a joke, mostly, she's still dancing around certain topics.]

I'd be honored.

[Dean chuckles in return, uncomfortable and awkward for a minute because the last time he had a 'date' that didn't require him to go further than someone's bed was with Cassie. After a minute he nods and looks up at Anna. His tone is a little softer, a touch more serious than joking but not much]

Hey if you're gonna have a date, might as well be over something like cookies. Works for me.

You really want to?

[Anna looks at him curiously, it was a public gesture.]

[After a moment he nods],/small>

Yeah. Why not?

Public scrutiny?

[She shrugs again, but there's the hint of a smile on her face.]

But it might be... nice.

[He frowns a moment then glances over at Anna]

Let 'em scrutinize. I mean it can only be good for your rep, right. [He winks and grins at her. Honestly he knows it's really the other way around]

[She leans against him, laughing softly.]

And heaven only knows my reputation needs a boost.

Yeah, we gotta clear up some misconceptions about you. [He puts his arm around her shoulders and turns her his to place a kiss on top of her head. It's a weird little sort of comfort that he hasn't had in a long time. If he stops to think about it, it'll scare the crap out of him. So he doesn't. Not right now.]

You don't do that reading my mind thing Cas does...right? [Because Cas has pretty much free reign to poke around in Dean's head...someone he's attempting to date? Not so much]

[She takes the comfort from the gesture, settling a little in his arm, not looking at it too closely. It's foreign and familiar at the same time and she's still not sure how she feels about that.]

No, I haven't had a need to. Why?

[Not looking at it too closely is how Dean is dealing with all of this. That and just going with it.]

'Cause if we're gonna have cookie dates and empty apartments, you oughta stay out of my head. I'm not hiding anything from you. It's just...if you want to know I'd rather you ask.

[A slight eyebrow is raised, but she smooths her expression. Was that really what he thought she'd do, just wander through his subconscious whenever she pleased? As simple a solution as that would be, it wasn't her style.]
