Phone Call for giveandforgive [Locked to Brooke]

"You gonna call her?" Sam asked.

"Said I would," Dean answered.

"Well...you ought to."

"Sammy...shut up."

In response, Sam had shoved his earbuds in his ears and turned up his music. Right now he had his forehead against the passenger window pretending to be asleep. Dean fished his cell phone out of his jacket pocket and dialed Brooke's number. He wasn't mad. He hadn't been lying about that. He was hurt. He knew why but he didn't understand it. He hadn't been lying about wanting to get a jump on the research. That part was true too. The real reason he didn't want to go back and talk to her face to face right now was because he didn't know how to handle this. He didn't know what the hell he was thinking or feeling. He waited for Brooke to pick up the phone and hoped this wasn't Dean Winchester, screwing up.

"Sam will be fine too," Brooke insisted. "Because if anything happens to either one of you, you have to answer to me."

"I'm not worried about Sam. He can take care of himself and he's got me," Dean responded.

"Well I can take care of myself," Brooke reminded him. "And Matthew has me."

"Yeah...alright," Dean nodded. "What are you two gonna do while I'm gone?" He was tired of talking about how much he was going to worry but he wasn't tired of talking to her.

"I don't know yet," she admitted, thinking it over for a second. "He has Student of the Week stuff to do for next week, maybe we'll start on some of it. He hasn't said what he wants to do for it yet."

"That one of those deals where he makes some sort of presentation about himself?" Dean asked.

"Yeah, it's mostly that," Brooke replied. "He also gets to do his own show-and-tell, bring in a snack, and help the teacher hand out papers and stuff. Oh, and he's first in the class line."

"Big week for him," Dean responded. "First in line at the cafeteria gets the best food."

"Yeah, but I don't think he's nervous." Brooke thought that made sense. He was her kid. That meant he would be great in front of people, so why should he worry? "Anyway, it's something to work on with him."

"'Course he's not nervous," Dean chuckled. "He's mine and yours. What's he got to be nervous about?"

"Not a damn thing," Brooke laughed. "His snack is going to be mini-pies."

"Our kid is awesome," Dean grinned. "You know he gets that from me. The whole pie thing."

"Really? I thought he got it from Lucas," Brooke teased.

""Nah, if our kid had any bad qualities, I'd say he gets them from Uncle Luke but since he doesn't..." Dean smirked.

"But if he grows up to be a basketball player, Uncle Luke is getting credit for that," Brooke teased. "If he's tall enough."

"Uncle Luke can have credit for that," Dean smirked. "Uncle Sam gets credit for the friggin' genius part of him."

"You just want to say your family contributed all of the good stuff," she pointed out. "That's not fair."

"Not true. Your family gets the good stuff too," Dean chuckled. "He got your people skills."

"He's got your approach to women," Brooke said with a smirk. "Yesterday we were talking about these little girls in his class. Ashley and Kelly Burke. I asked him which one he liked better and do you know what he said?" Brooke asked.

"He said mom, they're twins. You can't like one better, you have to take them both so one doesn't feel bad."

"That's my boy," Dean laughed. "He's doing it for the good of the twins, Babe."

"He's doing it because he wants to be just like his friend Dean," she pointed out. That much seemed obvious to her.

"I'm reformed now, Darlin'. I don't do twins. For their good or mine," Dean assured her with a grin.

"Reformed my ass," Brooke laughed. "He's learning a lot of things I thought I could save until high school."

"Don't worry, I'll make sure he turns out alright," Dean grinned. "Sammy turned out good."

"You really plan on sticking around," Brooke couldn't help but mention. It made her feel a little more secure about the whole thing to hear that. "He turned out great."
