Cas has certainly seen the signs of Dean looking better for his family
being around. The jokes around the table from the older Winchester boy
have been forthcoming.
He's not sure how his being an angel affects being exclusive but he pauses
to consider where Dean is going with it. Obviously, it sounds to be one
thing. "You mean sex?" he guesses. "It... My penis is not broken, Dean."
Dean is happier than Cas has ever seen him. He worries about Sam, but that's going to be true no matter what else is going on. He also worries about Cas because Cas is spending more and more time as a human. He wants to make sure Cas is okay, but also express that Cas is actually taking advantage of the chance they have in this place to have a real life rather than some life lived between bouts of saving the world and/or dying.
Dean looks surprised then scowls a little at Cas. "Dude, I don't need to hear about your angel junk." He hesitates a little. "Lucy doesn't seem like a one week a month girl," As far as sex goes, he means." Plus she's human. I didn't know if like angel sex would kill her. Or if you even got your rocks off when you were an angel. It's not like the other angels are running around hooking up." After all, Anna didn't have her grace when he slept with her.
Happiness suits Dean. Cas may have some concerns where being human for
longer periods of time is concerned, but on the same token not looking to
concern Dean about what he does not yet understand. Lucy and him have
talked about STDs and birth control.
Surprised expressions and scowls are also what Cas expects from Dean.
However, the question then becomes what Dean expects to hear about how it
works with Lucy. He lets Dean talk for a moment while he stands there
compliating how they're still not talking about his 'angel junk.' "Correct.
Other angels are not running around, like you say, "hooking up," for fear
of birthing a nephilim. I have made sure that is not plausible."
As for Lucy not being a one week a month girl that is something he does not
yet have an answer to. It slowly seems like it's working itself out though
because the angel does have rocks.
Cas ought to talk to Ruby about it. She can help him research it and not worry anyone. Dean is glad. He's pretty sure that Lucy is more careful than that, but it's definitely something to discuss.
Good, he's not disappointing Cas then. Conversations with Dean are complicated and labyrinth-like. Dean contemplates that a moment, frowning as he thinks about it. "Think it has something to do with this place?" He could mean Cas's rocks or the humanity. Take your pick.
Dean likes Lucy and as long as Lucy isn't breaking Castiel's heart (which he thinks could be likely given what he knows about Lucy)then Dean is happy for Cas. Lucy is already a bit like one of the family. All the better if she's one of the family and Castiel's girlfriend.
Talking to Ruby about it is something he will have to consider. Of course,
he'll get there eventually because they're the only two non-humans he is
aware of.
These conversations are often unnecessarily complicated and labyrinth-like.
Would he change that about his friend though? No. Cas can only assume his
'rocks' go hand in hand about his humanity. "Yes. The connection with
Heaven here is weaker. In time, I will probably lose all my grace and be...
human." He hadn't wanted to trouble Dean with that theory before, but now
he does not sound so sure that it is a bad thing. There's so much more to
humanity than burning brightly for a short amount of time in his opinion.
Whichever way it goes, Castiel can only be better for his experiences with
Lucy.
Ruby knows Damon and she could introduce Cas and the vampire, but she's fairly certain they wouldn't get along.
Dean is far more complicated than he appears. He also has issues with serious conversations that discuss actual emotions, fears, and hopes, which is part of the reason for the labyrinthical conversations. Dean assumed that Cas only wanted sex when he was human, but this conversation has Dean considering how his bouts of humanity and this place in general is affecting Cas as a whole. Dean's brow furrows and he leans forward, adopting a much more concerned expression and body language. He considers Castiel's words as well as his tone of voice while he takes a sip of his coffee. "Okay. Can we fix it? Do you want to?"
It's best if she's the only one he is aware of. The angel would find Damon
immediately suspicious.
There is a lot that Castiel isn't saying or may not even be aware of with
his condition. There is certainly some evidence to suggest he has wanted
sex before as an angel though often when he was weakened or cut off from
heaven. This conversation is a first for all that. "I hadn't really thought
about it." Maybe that means he does not want to. This line of questioning
is very confusing. But if one thing is for sure, he wouldn't return home
just to remain an angel because his friends are here.
Probably because Damon is a douche until you get to know him. He's got hidden depths.
Dean is glad he could help him figure it out? Seriously though, Dean is here to help Castiel figure out how to have a life, whether he's an angel or human. Cas's answer makes Dean's brow furrow. Now he's a little concerned. "Okay...well, if you want to stay an angel...we'll figure out a way to get that connection back somehow." Dean doesn't want Cas to go home either mostly because he's selfish and he does want a life here, a life that includes his best friend.
Not that Damon wants it advertised that he is a softy.
Castiel at least feels the same way about staying put. Regaining a
connection to Heaven though may just be too far out of reach but somehow he
can think of worse things that could happen.
"If you have ideas, my eardrums are not ruptured." Is that not the saying?
Ruby understands that. It's probably still something Gracie is figuring out.
Dean thinks that most of Heaven is filled with dicks and douches, but he understands that Cas wants that connection to Heaven, to home. He thinks it's a little like his connection to the Impala or to Sam, the things that make Dean who he is.
Dean chuckles, rubbing at the back of his neck. "All ears, Cas. You're all ears." Mostly he's stalling, trying to put together something that makes sense. "Some kind of spell. Something to strengthen that bond. Use the angelblade? I can't help but think there's got to be some sort of spell like that in all those books. We could talk to Sam about it. Maybe see if Ruby has heard of something like that."
Dean is beginning to trust Ruby and he's respected her ability with magic for a while (she did fix the colt and she made the badass demon knife). They might as well use the resources they've got at their fingertips.
Not all of his brothers and sisters in Heaven are douches Dean. At the same
time, it is not untrue that Castiel would want to keep a connection to
home. He does think it's a consequence to accept with choosing to call this
place home.
Cas just nods. It's what he meant. He's hard to know all the time when Dean
is stalling and when he is helping so the angel remains appreciative rather
than skeptical with where he's going with this. It lasts as long as the
time it takes for Dean to open his mouth with implausible ideas. "If there
were anything like that to exist, it would be God himself or locked away in
Heaven. I've never heard of anything that could do that." Something like
that couldn't exist because it could essentially make anyone an angel.
Thanks for trying though, Dean.
(Maybe there is something and Cas doesn't know about it yet.)
Okay, well Dean hasn't met those brothers and sisters. Of course, Dean doesn't want to think that there are consequences to choosing this place as home.
Dean is a very complicated person and so is the facade he puts up for everyone to see. It's obvious that Dean doesn't like that Cas is shooting down his idea. "We'll keep looking, Cas." He says it in that serious, sober tone of voice he has. Dean wants his friend to be as happy here as he is.
There would give Castiel no greater pleasure than to introduce Dean to some
of the siblings created around the same time as him. Cas hadn't informed
him before now because the upside outweighs the consequences.
The last thing he wants to do is give Dean a false sense of hope. It is not
his intention to shoot down the ideas Dean is brainstorming. There is a
moment where Cas realizes between them he creates the awkward silence, and
to remedy it he puts himself into Dean's shoes as Sam once suggested. "It
seems...there is no harm in trying. You've found the answer for the
impossible before." He accepts the outcome whatever it is though he knows
Dean doesn't accept change all that well.
Dean would meet the introductions with skepticism, but it's not a personal reflection on the angels. Dean just thinks Cas is the best angel.
It's a fine line to walk and really, Dean is insisting on hope because he's afraid of how Cas will take the change. Dean doesn't care if his friend is human or an angel as long as he's his friend and he's happy. He shrugs. "It'll give me something to do." There's a pause and Dean considers the situation.
"Are you going to be okay if you're human all the time? I mean...I know the human periods can be fun, but you always know they're going to end..."
Sam could tell them the unfortunate truth in finding out if Cas would like
being human is for him to experience it more. Dean can ask Sam to help with
this though. Castiel can only go with his gut and believe he will be happy.
Castiel searches for his own feelings about that. "It's fine if you do."
The situation doesn't seem all that bad no matter which way it lands. For
Lucy, he could be human.
"I need you to be okay with it if it happens. I believe I will be okay with
it when it happens. It happened before, remember, and there is much less to
struggle with here than there was a home." Food, water, income... all of
that is provided. Castiel takes joy in being able to be open to human
experiences and feel emotions at a much higher rate with a human soul than
what angel grace allots him.
Dean nods a little. Sam would be right: the only way to know if he'd be okay with being human is to experience humanity.
That gets a furrowed brow look from Dean. "Cas...as long as you're you, I don't care if your angel or human or...some sort of in-between. Yeah, sometimes it's nice having an angel on call, but it doesn't make any difference to our friendship. "You're happy. I'm happy, pretty much what it comes down to."
It is hard to know how to respond to that. Cas could agree that it is much
nicer to be the angel on call, but his friend telling him it does not
matter what he is sheds a weight on his mind that he had no clue was
present. "You-- Everybody here is safe, so I am happy whatever I happen
to be. It won't change my friendship with you either."
